General Accountability

You will be part of the Non-Destructive Testing crew responsible for providing monitoring of the Toronto Transit Commission's rail systems including the Subway and Scarborough Rapid Transit line.

Job Responsibilities

The work will involve:

  • Assisting in the daily testing of rail and trackwork using a variety of ultrasonic, eddy current, magnetic particle, and liquid penetrant equipment.
  • Setting up, calibrating, adjusting, maintaining, cleaning, and confirming the accuracy of the test instruments.
  • Accurately recording test results, and entering data in databases and information systems.
  • Assisting in the planning and preparation of test programs.

Skills, Education & Experience

  • Be knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Possess sound judgment, and strong communication skills and be thorough in your approach to inspections and testing.
  • Experience in non-destructive testing (UT, EC, MPI, LPI) and/or weld inspection would be an asset.
  • A current Ontario G-class driver's license would be an asset.

Additional Requirements

  • The work requires someone who can follow established procedures and is meticulous in their approach.
  • The fieldwork requires strict adherence to safety rules and regulations with routine work in a subway tunnel environment (dark, dusty, confined areas) with trains running.
  • The successful candidate must be able to pass the TTC's in-house training program to gain access to track-level work.
  • The physical component involves regular lifting of equipment, climbing, and extensive walking.
  • This position is designated Safety-Sensitive under the TTC’s Fitness for Duty Policy. You will be required to pass a medical assessment and drug test as part of the certification process.
  • Students will be required to complete a criminal background check during the onboarding stage, satisfactory results will be required.
